News - T3 4-speed/syncro gear selector rod repair kits.
We have given a good bit of thought to developing a cost-effective DIY repair kit for the 4-speed / syncro gear selector rod recently and this had finally come together. The enduring problem is that as the plastic tips on the rod fork (that controls the lever gate) degrade with age and then chip off, resulting in a less than ideal gearshift despite all other components being renewed.
These rods are no longer available from VW, so thanks to Aidan Talbot Gearboxes for providing us with comprehensive dimensions taken from a brand-new rod, we are now have a proven, effective and straightforward repair kit that is well within the fitting capabilities of the average T3 enthusiast.
No special tools are required and the whole repair can be carried out over a few hours, with overnight curing time for the epoxy adhesives.
We also now have a similar kit for the tips of the 5-speed gear lever.
